Hurst scraped through their quarter final clash with Montpellier Villa in the third meeting of the season between the two side.
Two changes in personal from the fronts last game; Maltby in for Taylor with D’Alessio moving to the vacant left back position and Dean Cornwall replacing the unavailable Smith in goal. Godfrey and Oecken switching roles in the only other change to the 5-5 draw at Ansty.
Villa had most of the ball in the opening exchanges but Luke Martin pounced on a defensive error to slot in his tenth goal of the season after twenty minutes.
Continuing to contain the pressure, Hurst waited for their chances to break and did so efficiently with Martin grabbing his second, outpacing the Villa defence and dinking a left footed effort over the oncoming keeper expertly.
After the half Hurst were defending into the light; Villa took advantage of this early on with a well struck free kick going out of Cornwall’s vision.
Villa again seemed to have more possession in the half and equalised soon enough with David Collie skipping through a sluggish Blue Dogs defence before firing into the top right.
With twenty minutes left Luke Martin then turned provider with a long throw, Shaun Jepson flicking on a looping effort for his second goal of the season against his former club.
With Villa desperate to equalise, the goalkeeper had come up for a corner with no success – Lambert picked up the ball deep in the Hurst half and played a through ball towards the open goal – Martin, with fifteen yards to make up on the recovering keeper and defender, managed to over take both and tap into the open net.
Villa pulled one last goal back after another piece of unacceptable defending from Hurst. The Brighton side had thought they’d equalised with the ball in the net, before it being ruled out for offside in the last moments.
Hurst go into the semi-final and will play either Ansty Sports and Social club or Copthorne III, hoping to go one step further than last year and with this competition.
